The New Jersey Sled Dog Club offers demonstrations in dog sledding and weight pulling to schools, organizations, etc. Some of the features of the presentation are as follows: discussing the famous annual Iditarod race, parts of the dog sled, dog sledding equipment, how the dogs are harnessed and hooked into place on the line, weight pulling equipment and the special traits that help make up the northern breed sled dogs. Also a slide show of Alaska (showing its natural beauty along with mushers at the start-line of the famous Iditarod race) will be presented by Kathy Murarik. She first-hand experienced this (along with other NJSDC members) and helped mushers get to the start line of this awesome 1,000 mile race.
If weather permits, the dogs will also run a short course. In addition, a weight pulling demonstration will be given by a titled weight pulling dog who has pulled more than twenty times his weight in competitions. The dogs in the presentation are: Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes and Alaskan Huskies. The following is a list of some previous demonstrations: The 4-H Fair, Chester; NJ; Noah's Ark Hike and Howl; Sparta Mountain Day, Sparta, NJ; Somerset County Park's Commission Frost Fest, Basking Ridge, NJ.; American Christian School; Salem Street School; Durban Avenue School, Hopatcong, NJ.
